Facebook doesn't want to be outdone by Clubhouse's popularity. The social network made by Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly testing the latest audio platform, Hotline, Thursday (8/4).

The hotline was developed by Facebook's New Product Experiment Team (NPE), which is tasked with building applications with new ideas. Even so, Hotline does have some new features to differentiate it from Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces.

Among other things, the differentiator supports video display so that participants can display the video when asking questions. This feature is a secondary feature because it is only presented in a small display the size of the user's profile picture.

Users are presented with the option to display video or only sound. Another distinguishing feature of the Hotline is that creators can delete questions and organize participants for specific sessions.

Quoted by Reuters, a Facebook spokesperson said the Hotline is for science experts who can share tips from various fields, including finance or health.

The development of this application is led by Eric Hazzard, who previously developed the Q&A application, TBH, which Facebook acquired in 2017.

There is a series of differences between the Hotline and its fellow applications, which are equipped with an automatic conversation recorder. This is useful for some types of conversation such as podcast-style chat sessions.

Quoted Techcrunch, the application has more designation for professional users than for conversing like a Clubhouse.

The success of the Clubhouse application, which has only been established for a year, has shown a fast growing number of enthusiasts. Until now, there have been more than 10 million active weekly users.

That success seems to be bothering other social media platform providers. Not long after Clubhouse became famous, Twitter also launched a similar feature called Twitter Spaces.
